£220k investment in green lighting will help to save money

Malvern Hills District Council last week agreed to invest another substantial chunk of capital funding in Malvern Theatres to enable them to be greener and more financially sustainable in the future; following Executive Committee approval last week.

The investment of £220,000 will go towards LED lighting, which it is estimated will save the theatres £32,000 per year in electricity bills, helping to keep the overall running costs of the town's precious theatre down.

Cllr. David Hughes, Leader of MHDC said "We are committed to supporting the Malvern Theatres as an important cultural venue and attraction to visitors which supports the local economy. As landlords we are keen to invest in the building infrastructure, to give the theatres management team every opportunity to be self sufficient in the longer term. Together with the recent investment we made to upgrade the heating, this helps to make Malvern Theatres an attractive venue for performers and public alike."

Nic Lloyd, Chief Executive, Malvern Theatres "I'm pleased that MHDC is making such a substantial long-term commitment to Malvern Theatres. This investment will significantly modernise the fabric of the building for many years to come."

Work to change the lights is expected to start in the summer and costs savings for the theatre will be felt immediately
