Chairman prepares to plough across district for charity

More than £1,300 has already been ploughed into a charity appeal by the Chairman of Malvern Hills District Council.

Cllr Williams is making the final preparations ahead of her Chairman's Charity Tractor Run on Sunday, 13 September in aid of the Midlands Air Ambulance, one of her two chosen charities for her year in office.

The 64-year-old will travel 44 miles across the district on a red 1962 Massey Ferguson 35 tractor. Cllr Williams will set off about 10.30am from Buckbury on the Gloucestershire border and finish about five and a half hours later at Tenbury Wells near Shropshire.

She will be accompanied on the day by her partner Neville Jones and hopes to raise at least £3,000 for the worthy cause, with businesses and individuals quick to donate to the cause so far.

Cllr Williams said: "The tractor has been cleaned up and is ready to go and now I am just looking forward to getting out there, meeting as many people as possible and raising as much money as I can for a fantastic cause.

"So if you are in the area come and see me, give me a wave and give what you can to keep the Midlands Air Ambulance flying."

Michelle McCracken, Worcestershire fundraising manager for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, said: "Each air ambulance mission costs the charity approximately £2,500, so events such as the Chairman's Charity Tractor Run will not only help us raise awareness of our charity but money raised will help directly fund life saving missions in our area. Without such events, we simply wouldn't be able to offer our emergency pre-hospital service to the most severely ill and injured people across the Midlands, so we are extremely grateful for the support."
