Commonwealth flies high at Council

The Commonwealth flag has been raised by Malvern Hills District Council as part of a ceremony of dedication to mark Commonwealth Day 2016.

At 10am on Monday 14 March the flag was raised on the top of the council tower together with more than 850 other Commonwealth flags in 38 Commonwealth countries.

A specially written speech was read out at the ceremony by Cllr Barbara Williams, Chairman of Malvern Hills District Council, before the flag was then raised.

Cllr Barbara Williams said: “It is great to be a part of a shared celebration of the family of nations that encompasses the globe. It is a unique initiative that joins people together, and I am really proud to be a part of it.”

The event is now in its third year, and already catching the imagination of thousands of participants from all walks of life, inspiring them to connect with others throughout the Commonwealth, and gives participants opportunities for friendship and cooperation with fellow Commonwealth citizens around the world.
