Consultation event on accessibility

MHDC has recently engaged consultants to audit access arrangements to toilets in the district.

In addition to recommending how access can be improved generally, their recommendations will also advise whether existing toilets can be adapted to provide ‘Changing Places' facilities.

This means toilets that provide access to people with profound and multiple learning disabilities as well as impairments such as spinal injuries, multiple sclerosis or an acquired brain injury, often need extra facilities to allow them to use the toilets comfortably.

Changing Places toilets are different to standard disabled toilets with extra features and more space to meet these needs.

However, before the consultant reports back with their findings on all aspects of access interested groups are being invited to a consultation event to provide their feedback on improving accessibility to toilets.

Cllr. Bronwen Behan portfolio holder for environmental control said "This is a great opportunity for people to come along and give us much needed information on what we can do to improve the accessibility of our public toilets. We hope that as many interested groups and individuals as possible will come along and let us know their thoughts."

The consultation event will take place at the Council House, Avenue Road , Malvern on  Wednesday 14 January 2015 starting at 6pm –  Please let us know in advance if you wish to attend but if not just turn up on the night
