Council workers go through the pain barrier for Sport Relief
Planning officers from Malvern Hills District and Wychavon District Councils dusted off their lycra to take part in a gym-based challenge for Sports Relief.
Simon Rees, area planning officer for MHDC and Dave Addison, principal planning officer for Wychavon, travelled the distance between Land’s End and John o’ Groats – some 970km – on bikes based at Freedom Leisure run gyms in Worcester and Malvern.
Dave started the challenge on the morning of Monday 7 March and completed 485km riding before and after work every day until Friday 11 March. He then passed the baton on to Simon who started on Monday 14 March and finished the remaining 485km on Friday 18 March.
The pair completed their charity challenge cycling for around 3hrs 45mins each day and have so far raised just over £600, with the donations still rolling in.
Simon said: “The challenge was much tougher than we ever imagined it would be, but the support of our friends, family and colleagues throughout this has really kept us going. All of the generous donations to this great cause have made all the pain worthwhile”.
Jack Hegarty, Chief Executive of Malvern Hills District Council and Managing Director of Wychavon District Council, said: “This was a huge challenge to undertake and we are really proud of Simon and Dave’s dedication and achievement.”
