Flushed with success

MHDC is celebrating after receiving a resounding endorsement for its public loos this month.

At the Loo of the Year Awards, seven of their toilets received the gold standard and one the silver. MHDC was officially ranked 15th in the toilet premier league for the overall quality of its loos.

Bronwen Behan, portfolio holder for environmental control, said: "We're so pleased by this result. To have our toilets receive these gold awards is fantastic. Good quality public loos are essential and we're pleased to have this external recognition. My thanks go to the hard working staff for keeping these toilets at such a high standard."

The awards were presented on 5 December in Solihull at an official ceremony. The awards are open to all types of providers of "away from home toilets", including those involved in retail, hospitality, leisure, transport, local authorities and many more.

Every year, Loo of the Year judges make unannounced visits to MHDC's public loos to inspect and mark them against a number of factors, which together make toilets clean, safe and hygienic.
