Foodies set to flock to Malvern for gastronomic fiesta

Food lovers are in for a treat next month at a series of mouth watering events in and around Great Malvern.

The initiative – organised by Malvern Hills District Council in partnership with The Great Malvern Food Festival Group – will take place over the Bank Holiday weekend, Sunday 25 and Monday 26 May.

Combining the annual Great Malvern Food Festival – now in its fourth year – with a first-of-its-kind food walk, residents will be able to enjoy the very best in local food and drink.

Due to its growing popularity, the Food Festival – which has previously been held in the town centre – will move to the beautiful grounds of Great Malvern Priory Church. Taking place on Monday 26 May, the day will be packed full of delicious events including cookery demonstrations, food stalls and entertainment from local musicians; there will also be plenty of activities for children.

Free to enter, the Festival has previously attracted up to 2000 people.

Stars of the show will include Felice Tochinni, TV star and highly acclaimed chef from Fusion Brasserie in Worcester and artisan bread maker Robert Swift.

Felice's food demonstrations will include some of his celebrated dishes and also a slot with local school children, creating recipes from their chosen local ingredients. Robert will be sharing the secrets of baking perfect bread. There will also be demonstrations of vegetarian, Egyptian and Asian cuisine plus examples of how to cook great food on a budget.

Phil Grove, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development at Malvern Hills District Council said: "We are absolutely delighted to announce the date of this year's Food Festival and also our very first Food Walk. The Festival is a well established event in Malvern and with the added attraction of the walk; visitors and residents are in for an appetising weekend!

"Malvern has much to celebrate; by combining home grown local produce with the stunning Malvern Hills, the event looks set to be a real success."

The food walk – entitled The Malvern Munch! Food Walk – is a new addition to the Bank Holiday weekend's activities and will take place on Sunday 25 May; those taking part can enjoy a leisurely 6mile walk around the Malvern Hills and taste the best in local food and drink whilst listening to live music including a string quartet and jazz act at stops along the way.

The food and drink for the walk is being supplied by a wide range of local producers such as Malvern Hills Brewery, the Friday Beer Company, Wince's Cider and Croome Cheese amongst others.

Tickets for the walk are £20.00 for an adult and £12.00 for a child and are available from Malvern Tourist Information Centre on (01684 892289) (info@visitthemalverns.org).
