Malvern Priory music and light extravaganza.

Brian Blessed, actor, author and adventurer
will be visiting Malvern in September to launch a music and light
extravaganza which will be performed over ten days at the Malvern
Priory as one of the highlights of its 925th anniversary
celebrations.
The actor will be coming for the special
launch of Light and Dark, a Son-et-Lumière production, which will
be held at the Priory at 18.00 Saturday 25th
September.
Following the launch, the production will run
at the Priory from 2nd -13th November with
400 children from 14 primary and secondary schools taking part
alongside professional actors and musicians. It will be
a spectacular light display with a funny and entertaining series of
stories, with a different choir performing each night.
The production will celebrate an extraordinary
story about remarkable people from Great Malvern which many people
are unaware of. It is a chance for the community to celebrate
its own heritage, with a new music score written specifically for
the Priory.
Malvern Hills District Council’s Community
Services team has been in discussions with Malvern Priory during
the last eighteen months to support and advise them on their plans
for the 925th anniversary celebrations. The
‘Son-et-Lumière’ is being produced by the Malvern Priory 925
celebration project team with funding from the Arts Council and
Worcestershire together with a small grant from MHDC.
On the evening of the launch, Rob Swinton,
director of the Son-et-Lumière will perform “Songs and Sonnets, the
wit and wisdom of Donne and Shakespeare” at 7.30 in the Priory;
admission is free. Rob has worked with Brian Blessed in a
film version of Macbeth and was offered the chance to accompany Mr.
Blessed on his next trip to Everest. Unfortunately, Rob was
otherwise engaged!
Tickets are available for performances
2nd -13th November from Malvern Theatres Box
