Volunteering Centre up and running

Malvern Hills’ new Volunteering Service will be up and running from the 22nd July offering advice to members of the public wanting to take up local volunteering opportunities.

With the help of Malvern Hills District Council and Malvern Hills Citizens Advice Bureau, Kay Bromley (previous Organiser of Volunteer Centre Malvern), will be voluntarily running the sessions from the Hub in Malvern Library.

With provision of a private interviewing room, sessions will run on Thursday afternoons between 13.30 and 16.30 and Friday mornings between 9.00 and 12.30. This service will help potential volunteers of all ages to find suitable local roles by putting them in touch with charities and organisations seeking volunteers.   Increasingly local organisations recruit volunteers to enable them to carry out vital work which couldn’t otherwise be offered due to a lack of resources. The Malvern Hills District has a huge amount of volunteers and this service is seen as invaluable in supporting local voluntary organisations and their services.

Kay says “I am delighted that with so much support and enthusiasm from everyone involved, we can get a local service running regularly.  When Volunteer Centre Malvern closed earlier this year I was determined to try and get a new service underway.”

Kay has been a Volunteer Centre Organiser for the past nine years, offering impartial advice to hundreds of people interested in volunteering for a very wide range of roles.  She has also helped organisations develop new volunteering roles such as ‘helpers’ at the new All Welcome Drop in Centres for the over 55’s or as ‘reading helpers’ in local primary schools.

Councillor Barbara Williams, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development at MHDC says: “This new volunteer centre will support all age groups and we would actively encourage any one with spare time to get involved.  Volunteering within your local community brings many benefits and volunteers will reap the personal benefits in years to come.  ”
