New Malvern Hills Volunteering
Service
With hundreds of volunteers being recognised
for their dedication as part of Volunteers’ Week running from
1st – 7th June, a new volunteering
service within Malvern called ‘Malvern Hills Volunteering’, will be
opening by mid June. This new service will help volunteers find
suitable local volunteering roles and put them in touch with
charities and organisations seeking new volunteers.
With the help of Malvern Hills District
Council , Malvern Hills Citizens Advice Bureau, and Diane Bellamy
(former Manager of Community Action, Malvern and District), Kay
Bromley (previously Volunteer Centre Malvern Organiser), the
service will be available on Thursday afternoons and Friday
mornings. Located at the Hub in Malvern Library, the service
will offer impartial advice about local volunteering
opportunities. Members of the public will be welcome to ‘drop
in’ or request information and help by telephone or email.
Kay reports “I am delighted to have received
so much support and enthusiasm from everyone involved in setting up
this new service and I am looking forward to starting work again in
the next few weeks. Volunteer Centre Malvern was closed
at the end of March 2010 due to insufficient funding but not lack
of need as it was very well used by both members of the public and
local organisations. I hope to be able to offer a similar
service for ‘Malvern Hills Volunteering’.”
Every organisation which was registered
locally on the national volunteering website will be contacted by
Kay to check that they are still interested in receiving volunteer
enquiries. Because the service will be ‘mobile’, visits to
Upton upon Severn and Tenbury Wells will take place on a regular
basis, which was not previously possible.
Councillor Barbara Williams, Portfolio Holder
for Economic Development at MHDC says:
“ The new volunteer centre will support all
age groups and we would actively encourage any one with spare time
to get involved. Volunteering within your local community
brings many benefits and volunteers will reap the personal benefits
in years to come. ”
