Upton Heritage Centre Open Day
Upton Heritage Centre has been selected to
take part in the Heritage Open Days
programme. The project is run nationally by
English Heritage and takes place from
Friday 9th to Sunday 12th
September. This is England’s annual celebration of
local history, architecture and culture with free admission to all
properties and events. It is a chance for small heritage
sites across the UK to get gain much needed publicity and to
heighten their profile as a visitor destination.
Local historian Simon Wilkinson will be
leading guided historical walks around the town, to include the
Heritage Centre, with its recently updated displays and new touch
screen history pod. Some of the volunteers who work in the centre
will be dressed in period costume.
The Heritage Centre will be open 10.30am to
4.30pm during each of the three days with the guided walks taking
place twice daily from the Centre at 11am and again at
2.30pm.
Mike Morgan, Chair of Malvern Hills District
Council says: “Although Upton is a town now known for its festivals
and its floods, a short visit to The Heritage Centre reveals its
long and interesting past. I welcome the Heritage Open Days
initiative and would encourage residents from across the district
and further afield to pay a visit. All too often we ignore what's
on our own doorstep, why not take advantage of this weekend to put
that right?"
