New Chairman takes on the chains at Malvern Hills
District Council
Councillor Mike Soley has
been formally elected by councillors at Malvern Hills District
Council to take on the role of Council Chairman for 2011- 12. He
will be supported in the role by Councillor Paul Tuthill who was
elected Deputy Chairman.
The council meeting, held on 17th
of May was also an opportunity to thank past Chairman; Councillor
Mike Morgan for all of his hard work over the past twelve months
and to acknowledge the role Councillor David Watkins, who was not
re-elected onto council, played as Deputy Chairman.
Before formally handing over the chains to the
new Chairman, Councillor Mike Morgan took the opportunity to
present a cheque to the two charities he supported during his
time in the role and that are particularly close to his heart;
Malvern Sea Cadets received £1,100 and Great Malvern Relief in Need
were handed £500.
As well as electing new a new Chairman and
Deputy Chairman, the Council also formally elected
Councillor Phil Grove to continue in his role as
Leader of the Council for a further twelve months. Over the next
few days, he, together with fellow councillors will be finalising
the individual portfolios for members of the Council’s Executive
Committee.

Council explained:
“There are a great many challenges
ahead, however I am confident that all members and officers are
fully committed to ensuring our residents come first and that we
continue to do all we can to understand and meet their needs. I
look forward to working with the returning and new councillors and
offer my congratulations and support to Councillors Mike Soley and
Paul Tuthill who will be representing the council at civic events
over the next twelve months.”
