Building Excellence Awards reward local building companiesBuilding Excellence 2010

The first South Worcestershire Building Excellence Awards took place on the 27th of April at the Fownes Hotel in Worcester.

Attended by people from the local construction industry and officers and members from the South Worcestershire Building Control Partnership, which consists of Malvern Hills , Wychavon  and Worcester City Councils, the awards were designed to reward those committed to meeting building Regulations and standards .

Divided into six main categories so that developers and construction companies from a range of backgrounds could be recognised, the winners were selected by a special panel of judges from Worcestershire and Herefordshire Local Authority Building Control Services.

Awards were then presented by Deputy Chief Executive of Local Authority Building Control Services, Mr Phil Hammond and the Chairman of the South Worcestershire Shared Services Partnership Joint Committee, Councillor Andy Roberts.

The winners were:

Category 1 – Domestic Conversions and Extensions:  Priestfield Construction

Category 2 – Commercial Works: Matthews Construction

Category 3 – Housing – Large Developer: Berkeley Homes (Oxford and Chiltern) Limited

Category 4 – Development Team Award: Speller Metcalfe

Category 5 – Housing – Small Developer: Mr C Roden

Category 6 – Education Building: Morgan Sindall

Councillor Andy Roberts said: “Good building workmanship so rarely gets appreciated as too often the focus has been on the problems associated with building failures. This event was designed to help change this perception by not only demonstrating the range of talented building professionals in the county, but how the three councils are working closely with them to ensure construction projects benefit the local environment.”
