SWDP recommendations accepted swdp

A special full council meeting was held on Tuesday 3rd July in Bransford at which Malvern Hills district councillors approved the suggested changes to the SWDP for the district but with some additional recommendations proposed. The plan was also approved by councillors at meetings in Worcester City and Wychavon; these too came with further recommendations. Details of those additional recommendations will be available in due course.

There will be a second phase of public consultations that will run from 6th August to 14th September focusing on the proposed ‘significant changes’ that may affect residents within the local area. Copies of the proposals will be available to view at council offices, public libraries and customer contact centres.

Details of the venues and dates for Malvern Hills District are set out below

  • HALLOW: Thursday 9th August 2012 - Hallow Parish Hall 2:00PM - 8:00PM
  • UPTON-UPON-SEVERN: Friday 10th August 2012 - Memorial Hall 2:00PM - 8:00PM
  • MARTLEY: Monday 13th August 2012 - Memorial Hall 2:00PM - 8:00PM
  • MALVERN: Thursday 16th August 2012 - Priory Lodge Hall 2:00PM - 8:00PM
  • POWICK: Monday 20th August 2012 - Powick Parish Hall 2:00PM - 8:00PM
  • TENBURY WELLS: Thursday 23rd August 2012 - Tenbury Pump Rooms 2:00PM - 8:00PM

Highlights of the recommended ‘Significant Changes’ for the Malvern Hills district are:

  • An increase in the number of dwellings proposed for Tenbury from 30 to 70, with the extra 40 on the east of Oldwood Road
  • A reduction in the number of homes to be built at Holly Green in Upton-upon-Severn from 50 to 25. 18 dwellings are recommended for a new site at Tunnel Hill
  • A revised policy  aimed at redeveloping the QinetiQ site in Malvern, renaming it the Malvern Innovation and Technology Park and strengthening its links with the Malvern Hills Science Park
  • A range of changes to villages in Malvern Hills district, including 46 homes in Hallow and reductions in the numbers of homes proposed for Clifton-upon-Teme, Martley and Abberley
  • 10 homes are proposed in Welland next to The Pheasant public house
  • The removal of proposals to build 24 homes on land off Welland Road, Malvern

The South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP) is being jointly developed by Malvern Hills District Council, Worcester City Council and Wychavon District Council. Once adopted, it will form the basis for planning decisions across South Worcestershire until 2030.
