Building awards celebrate excellence

Last week (25 April) the South Worcestershire Building Control Partnership held its second annual Building Excellence Awards for projects built in the South Worcestershire area.

The award ceremony was held at the Fownes Hotel in Worcester and provided local developers and construction companies the opportunity to be celebrated for high quality building projects that show a strong commitment to meeting and exceeding building regulations and standards. The Building Regulations are there to ensure safe, energy efficient and healthy buildings; for example:  access for disabled, structural stability and strength, drainage provisions, fire safety, energy conservation and sustainability, adequate ventilation.

Divided into six main categories giving developers and construction companies from a range of backgrounds the opportunity to be recognised, the winners were selected by a panel of judges from the three South Worcestershire councils.

CouncillorAndy Roberts, Chairman of South Worcestershire Shared Services Joint Committee said: “Good building workmanship so rarely gets appreciated as too often the focus has been on the problems associated with building failures. This event was designed to help change this perception by not only demonstrating the range of talented building professionals in the county, but how the three councils are working closely with them to ensure construction projects benefit the local environment.”

Reza Saneie, the Partnership Manager for South Worcestershire Building Control said “We are delighted to be hosting the building excellence awards which aim to reward those who are committed to meeting Building Regulations and standards and also put quality and customer satisfaction high on their agenda."

Awards were then presented by Business Development Director, Local Authority Building Control, Gareth Barnbrook and the Chairman of the South Worcestershire Shared Services Joint Committee, Councillor Andy Roberts.
