Malvern and Tenbury miss out on first round of Portas pilots Malvern town centre

The government revealed at the weekend which twelve town centres are to pilot Mary Portas’ recommendations to revitalise their high streets and Great Malvern and Tenbury Wells have missed out on this first round.

Councillor Phil Grove, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development at Malvern Hills District Council said:

“The two towns were up against over 300 other high streets nationally so it was always going be a challenge but we still have another chance and will be supporting the teams in both towns to review and improve their applications as necessary.

We have a great opportunity to build on the energy created by the Olympic Torch events of last week and will look to work in partnership with local residents, traders, local groups and county and town councils on further improvements and support for our great town centres. “
