Malvern residents encouraged to go green this summer to save
money
Worcestershire County Council's Waste
Prevention Team is asking the residents of Malvern to think
green this summer and start producing their own compost.
Together with volunteer Master Composters the
team will be out and about in Malvern to meet with the community,
offering support and advice and passing on their years of
composting knowledge over the next couple of months. There
will be displays and road shows at local businesses, in the town
centre and at other public buildings.
Malvern residents will also be encouraged to
get composting this summer with the help of the discounted compost
bins, available to local residents. Compost bins are still at
the bargain price of £8 plus £5 delivery, with other offers such as
buying one and getting one half price.
Councillor Bronwen Behan, Portfolio
Holder for Environment Control at Malvern Hills District Council
said:
"The aim of this initiative is
to enlighten the residents of Malvern about composting
opportunities. Compost serves as a very nutritious food for the
plants, fruit and vegetables, and is essential to their growth, it
is also a much cheaper substitute for fertilisers."
"The summer is a great time of year to start
composting as gardens are in full bloom. Compost can be created at
a low cost in the comfort of your own premises by collecting
materials such as grass cuttings, food leftovers etc."
