Sampling of Private Water Supplies and Spring Water
Sampling of private water supplies from springs and
wells, is carried out by the Environment Team, part of
Worcestershire Regulatory Services working on behalf of Malvern
Hills District Council. The actual frequency of sampling depends on
the category of the supply. This can be as frequent as once a month
to as infrequent as once every five years.
In the case of supplies to private dwellings and businesses, the
results of the sampling are reported back to the owners and users
of the supply when they become available. This work is prescribed
under the Private Water Supplies Regulations 1991. A summary of
some of the most common and potentially serious contaminants found
in private water supplies, together with advice on remedial
measures can be found in the leaflet Bacteria in Your Water
Supply.
Any person who would like to have their private water supply
assessed can arrange for this to be carried out by getting in touch
with the Malvern Hills Customer Service and Contact Centre (see
below). The only charge currently levied is that which is
prescribed in the regulations, which includes the laboratory fee
for the analysis.
To arrange for your private water supply to be tested, please
contact Customer Services.
In addition to the work carried out above, the Environment
Team have also been taking regular samples from various
public water spouts in Malvern town. The results (see below) are
colour-coded to indicate whether or not they comply with the
requirements of the Private Water Supplies Regulations 2009.
