Knowing our communities
In order to understand the key issues affecting the district the
Malvern Hills Partnership commissioned a 'Knowing our
Communities' research project. The aim of the project was to
look at the individual wards across the district and identify any
key issues.
Sustainable Community Strategy
Once the ward profiles were completed, a
comprehensive overview
of the key problems
facing the district was produced. It is from this
document that that the Malvern Hills Partnership chose the
areas it would like to focus its work on for the next 14 years and
from that, the Malvern Hills Partnership developed a
local Sustainable
Community Strategy for 2011 -
2025.
We are currently supporting the work to develop a
county wide Sustainable Community Strategy (SCS) and this
should be published by the end of the summer 2011.Having a single
SCS enables county and district Local Strategic Partnerships (LSPs)
to streamline their processes and articulate priorities in light of
reduced resources. It also improves links between countywide theme
groups and the delivery of priorities in districts and helps
establish a robust local vision to underpin future and flexible
partnership delivery arrangements.

Our action programmes
The Malvern Hills Partnership has recognised
that there are a number of challenges that cannot be tackled by one
organisation alone. Instead, in order to add real value, issues
must be addressed collectively in order to be truly effective. It
is with this in mind that the Partnership has chosen to focus on
four key areas of work. Below you can find information about these
'action programmes'.

- Reduce the impact of rurality on our local
communities. The Malvern Hills Partnership will ensure residents
have better access to the services they need. In understanding the
issues facing those living in rural areas; particularly with
regards to transport and access to health services, the Partnership
can work to ensure current and future services are more accessible.
This includes meeting the specific needs of older residents and
helping them to engage with public services so that they receive
the support they need, as well as working with people throughout
their lives to maximise the length of disability free life.
- Tackle issues associated with inequalities, including health
inequalities. The Malvern Hills Partnership will increase the
ambition and aspiration of the residents living in our most
deprived wards. By building confidence and establishing projects
and services right from the heart of the community, the partnership
will have a positive impact on the lives of residents.
- Raise awareness of key environmental issues and to drive down
our reliance on fossil fuels. The Partnership knows that an
environmentally friendly district that understands the
environmental and financial impacts of climate change will lead to a
need to reduce carbon and greenhouse gas emissions.
- Protect residents and businesses from the impact of
flooding. By continuing to
petition Central Government and in working together to source
potential flood solutions to river and land drainage flooding, the
partnership can collectively achieve more that one organisation
alone.
