The main areas of the service are:
Building Control is a process by which any new building work,
whether house, office, factory or extension, is checked to ensure
it is designed and built to exacting standards. The standards are
laid down by Government in the Building Acts and Building
Regulations.
Our main job is to assess proposals for development: either
physical work like new buildings and extensions, or changes of use
of land or buildings. The section deals with the processing of
applications for Planning Permission, Advertisement Consent, Listed
Building Consent, Conservation Area Consent and Hedgerow Removal.
We also give informal advice on proposals.
The functions of the service are based around land use matters
and the management and enhancement of the environment.
This section deals with the historic and the natural
environment. Our function is to protect listed buildings,
enhance conservation areas and to protect and retain amenity
trees.
