Planning policies set out how planning
applications will be considered. The guidance comes in
the form of formal 'development plans' and more informal
'supplementary' guidance. The Development Plans Team is
responsible for developing the Council's planning policies.

The planning policy framework includes
Development Plan Documents, such as the proposed South
Worcestershire Development Plan. When adopted, this will replace
the saved policies of the Malvern Hills District Local Plan. The
policy framework also includes Supplementary Planning Documents and
Guidance. The Planning Policy Framework webpage sets out an
overview of the planning policy framework for Malvern Hills
District.

The South Worcestershire Development Plan is
being prepared jointly by Malvern Hills District, Worcester
City and Wychavon District councils and will guide development
in the area up to the year 2030. Once adopted, it will be the new
Local Plan and replace the existing Local Plans of the three
councils.

The current adopted Local Plan
for the district is the Malvern Hills District Local Plan which was
adopted in 2006. It provides guidance on how planning proposals and
applications in the district will be considered. Some policies
continue to be 'saved' until they are superseded by the new Local
Plan.
