Staff Training and Development

Businesses know how important it is to ensure staff have the right skills and training to meet the needs of the business. There is a range of help available to assist businesses with identifying training needs and organise staff training and development. Help is also available to businesses experiencing redundancies to ensure that redundant employees have the right advice on future training and career options. For businesses interested in helping the ‘entrepreneurs of the future’ there is opportunity for involvement in Enterprise Education programmes.

Learning and Skills Council

The Learning and Skills Council are involved in a number of Government funded schemes aimed at training and skill development. Two such schemes are Industrial Estate Learning Zones and Train to Gain.

Train to Gain (formerly the Skills Station)

Train to Gain is a national brokerage service for employers, operating through a series of local brokers who can offer guidance on training and staff development, and source appropriate local training to meet their needs. They can also advise on which courses may attract support or funding to enable employees to achieve a first Level 2 qualification. Employers make just one call, and their broker then works with them to help them identify and source their training needs. Local employers should contact 0845 450 6162, or visit the national website, www.traintogain.gov.uk
