Pest Control

Pest control treatment is no longer directly provided by the District Council. The Council has arranged for treatment to be undertaken by an external contractor called Igrox Ltd. They have agreed to provide treatment across the whole district at a reduced level of their normal charge rates.

The response time will normally be within two working days and will include a visit by appointment. However, during busy periods,(for example, during the summer when there are a lot of wasp nests to treat) response times may be longer.

Visits should be booked with Igrox Ltd by using the contact details below.

*Please note: You are not obliged to use the Council's approved contractor but please be aware that no responsibility either for costs or quality of workmanship will be accepted for work booked through alternative contractors for whatever reason.

All charges are for a complete course of treatment, irrespective of how many separate visits may be needed and include the removal of any left-over baits and dead rodent bodies where out in the open. Old "dead" wasps nests are not normally removed as they are not re-used in subsequent seasons.

The contractor is available for emergency situations 24 hours per day and throughout weekends, but it should be noted that this type of work would not be done at reduced rates.

In addition to the services above, which are provided by the Council’s pest control contractor, staff in Customer and Environmental Services are sometimes able to provide a pest identification service for insects and other invertebrates together with advice on treatment and control. You would need to provide a sample of the insects in a sealed container.

In the event that it has not been possible to identify the type of insects in the sample brought in to the Council, it may be necessary to send your sample away for identification by an external laboratory. In these cases, the Council would have to pass on the charges from the laboratory to you (the charge is currently around £55). Please state clearly what course of action you would like the Environmental Health team to take when you bring the sample in for investigation.
