Worcestershire County Council has been instrumental in the production of some important road safety DVD/videos relating to commonly used forms of school transport.
Steps to Safe Minibus Driving
This DVD/video identifies a need to offer detailed guidance for the operations of a minibus. It illustrates correct handling techniques and highlights safe operational practices. To date, over 1000 copies have been purchased.
Be Cool, Be Calm, Be Safe
For some time, Worcestershire County Council had been concerned that there was no suitable resource for schools giving information and advice about safe practices when travelling by coach, and in particular, practical information on how to evacuate the vehicle in an emergency. This gap was filled by this video giving safe, sensible and essential guidance on just what to do in an emergency. Over 700 copies have been distributed to date.
Emergency Evacuation of Specialist Vehicles
We also recognise the role people play when transporting or escorting passengers with special needs. This video was produced alongside “Be Cool, Be Calm, Be Safe” to address the problems that could occur during an emergency.
It Could be You
This is a thought provoking DVD that looks at the consequences of a tragic lapse in concentration for one teenager and the effect on his family and friends. Young people will identify with Jack and his friend Sarah enabling Road Safety Officers and Teachers to discuss road safety issues in a meaningful way.
It is supplied with a set of interactive notes.
All these DVD/videos are available to buy. Please contact Roger Woodward MBE, County Road Safety Officer (tel: 01905 768413).
