SACRE stands for Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education and is a group of individuals who all share an interest in RE. All main religions and faiths are represented on the Council, as well as schools, the Local Education Authority and other educational bodies.
The Council acts as a statutory body to advise the Local Education Authority (LEA) on matters connected with Religious Education and collective worship, including the Locally Agreed Syllabus for RE. To see the syllabus, go to www.edulink.networcs.net. It can be located from the Teaching and Learning tab, go to Subjects then Religious Education, then go to Resources in the menu on the left of the page.
The SACRE offers advice and support to help schools improve the provision of RE and communicates with outside agencies such as the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA), the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and local members of Parliament. An annual conference also provides Worcestershire’s RE teachers with workshop based training.
The SACRE generally meets three times a year, usually at Worcestershire County Council’s headquarters at County Hall, Worcester.
