Do you want to…
|
The Countryside Service occasionally organises guided walks and events throughout the year on its sites and in the wider countryside.
What do the walks and events cost?
Some guided walks and events are free but most will have a small charge.
There may be an additional charge for transport, materials or car parking which will be shown with the appropriate walk or activity.
Do I need to book?
Some walks and events require you to book a place for transport, catering or seating purposes. A contact number will be stated where relevant.
Numbers may be limited so please remember to book early to avoid disappointment.
What do I wear?
Sturdy footwear, a few layers of warm clothing and a rainproof coat will improve your comfort. On summer walks you may require a sun hat.
Should I bring lunch?
Some walks and events last all day, so provision for lunch is advisable Remember to pack a cool drink on hot days. Charges for some activities listed include lunch / refreshments – this will be stated where applicable.
How easy are the walks?
Each walk or event is graded as follows:
Accessible by people with restricted mobility
Easy (E)
usually under 4 miles
fairly flat
few or no stiles
Medium (M)
usually between 4 and 8 miles
may include some hilly sections
likely include a number of stiles
Hard (H)
usually over 8 miles
may include some hilly sections
likely to include a number of stiles
NB. The walks grades are only intended to offer a rough guide and are based primarily on distance but may be amended according to terrain and a number of stiles, e.g. some walks under 4 miles may have steep sections and therefore be graded ‘medium (M)’.
Please note:
Under some circumstances it may be necessary to alter or cancel a walk or activity. In any event the leader will always be at the meeting place at the agreed time.
