Community Library Co-ordinator - Beverly Orlowsky

This is a purpose-built library that opened on 16th January 1964. The majority of the lending stock is on the main ground floor area of the building; with the reference and local history sections located upstairs on the balcony. There is disabled access to the building via a ramp and automatic doors.

We offer a wide range of lending materials including spoken word cassettes, music cassettes, CD's and video's as well as books. There is a wide range of fiction including horror, fantasy, science-fiction, westerns, crime and romance. Symbols on the spines of the books and guiding on the shelves help borrowers to find what they want. Non-fiction is arranged in classified (subject) order and there is shelf guiding for some of the more popular subjects. We also offer Large Print books as well as having a Reference Section, local history, music scores, ordnance survey maps, local daily newspapers, and some magazines including Which? The local Electoral Register is available for reference.  A photocopier is also available. We also have DVD's for loan.

We have 6 People's Network terminals one of which is for visually impaired users, available free for public use, they offer a wide range of facilities, including word processing and the Internet. (Please note a booking system is in operation for these machines)
CD-RW and headphones can be purchased from the library for use with the PC's.

Videos and story tapes for children are also available.  Special storytimes and 'How to use the Library' sessions can be arranged for schools and playgroups in the area.

A large noticeboard is available for local clubs, organisations, schools and playgroups to put up displays.  The Library also offers various items for sale; Readyspex reading glasses, magnifying sheets, local clubs and societies list, floppy disks, hessian bags and ex-library stock.
