Bid to boost county’s food and drink industries takes next steps
Worcestershire’s fledgling new association to help grow the local food and drink industry will have its first outing at a trade show at the Three Counties Showground next week.
The new business-led Worcestershire Food & Drink Association aims to help more of Worcestershire’s foods, drinks and produce to be sold in the UK and worldwide, and it will be on hand at the Food and Drink Trade Show in Malvern on 3-4 May ahead of a public unveiling this summer.
The association is growing out of work by local businesses in partnership with the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (WLEP) and Worcestershire Regulatory Services (WRS).
Head of WRS Simon Wilkes said: “We’re responding to the local growers and producers that have told us they want this kind of association to help one of our major industries thrive. Now a group of businesses with our support have set up the Worcestershire Food and Drink Association to promote the wide variety of superb locally-produced food and drink the county has to offer, whether to trade buyers or high street businesses. The goal is to establish it as a fully independent association”.
“I’d encourage anyone with an interest to come and talk to representatives of the Worcestershire Food and Drink Association at the Show, to find out more and to let them know what you would like to see happen.”
WFAD will be at stand F4 at the Food and Drink Trade Show, featuring samples of Worcestershire food, demonstrations by local chef Felice Tocchini from Feli’s Kitchen and the chance to enter a daily draw for a hamper of local produce and vouchers.
Local producers currently set to be in the promotional hampers or on display include:
- Chocolate Deli (Worcester & Hanbury)
- Churchfields Farm Ice Cream (near Droitwich)
- Deliciously Squared (Droitwich)
- Feli’s Kitchen (near Pershore)
