Council invites comments on proposed Welland neighbourhood area
Malvern Hills District Council is inviting members of the public to voice their views on the proposal to designate the parish of Welland as a "neighbourhood area".
Little Malvern and Welland Parish Council have submitted an application to Malvern Hills District Council to designate the parish of Welland as a neighbourhood area with a view to developing a neighbourhood plan.
Neighbourhood plans are a key part of the Government's Localism agenda to give local people more of a say on issues like where new homes, shops and offices should be built, and the design of new developments.
One of the first steps in developing a neighbourhood plan is that the parish council has to apply to the District Council to be designated as a neighbourhood area.
The council is inviting comment on the applications, particularly from those living or working in the area, during a six week public consultation. Please follow this link to our Neighbourhood Planning pages to see details of the plan Neighbourhood Planning.
Councillor Tony Penn, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Housing at MHDC said: "Being designated as a neighbourhood area would enable the parish council to draw up a neighbourhood plan for Welland and this public consultation provides an important opportunity for the local community to comment on the proposals"
Don Atkinson, Chair of Little Malvern and Welland Parish Council, said: "Whilst Welland village benefits from a variety of local facilities and natural assets, it currently lacks identity. In the past, piecemeal development has come forward in isolation rather than being part of a vision for the village as a whole. A neighbourhood plan will help shape the future growth of the village through a community led approach, promoting innovation and engendering a strong sense of place, making Welland an attractive place to live, work and play in".
Public consultation on the boundary of the proposed neighbourhood area starts on Friday 21st February and runs until Friday 4th April 2014.
Any comments on the Welland neighbourhood area application should be sent to Malvern Hills District Council by 5pm on Friday 4th April 2014. Comments can be sent electronically via email to firstname.lastname@example.org or posted to the following address: Development Plans and Conservation, Malvern Hills District Council, Council House, Avenue Road, Malvern, Worcestershire, WR14 3AF.
