Healthier kids meals scoop gold award

A supplier of children’s meals to nurseries and primary schools has won Worcestershire’s top food award for healthier, locally-sourced food.

Cupcakes ‘EarlyYears’ Catering in Hanbury, which supplies over 800 meals a day in Worcestershire, South Birmingham and the Black Country, has received the highest Gold level Healthier Choices Food Award from Worcestershire Regulatory Services (WRS).

The award recognises Cupcakes’ use of seasonal and locally-sourced ingredients in their rotating menu of healthier nutritionally-balanced meals for children, for which they supply comprehensive allergen information.

Cllr Bronwen Behan, WRS Joint Committee Chairman, said: “We’ve seen some of our best local restaurants achieve the Healthier Choices Award and now it’s really encouraging to see a business that makes food for nursery and primary school children reaching the gold standard too.”

Claire Cardinal, Cupcakes’ Managing Director, said: “We are delighted to receive the Healthier Choices Gold Award. We aim to provide the healthiest selection of home-cooked dishes to our little customers in schools and days nurseries.  The award helps assure parents that we are dedicated to quality and standards throughout”.

The Healthier Choices Food Awards are for Worcestershire food businesses who offer customers a variety of healthier and customisable menu options, with a special Gold award for those who also use locally-sourced produce.

Eateries or caterers with the highest-possible five star Food Hygiene Rating are eligible for the awards that come with a range of additional business benefits such as nutritional analysis of recipes, discounted training and networking and informative events.
