New chairman announces her chosen charities
The Air Ambulance and Cancer Research UK will be the chosen charities for Malvern Hills District Council's new chairman.
Cllr Barbara Williams was elected to the role as the district's first citizen at the council's annual meeting on Tuesday (19 May), taking over from outgoing chairman Mike Morgan.
She said: "I am delighted and honoured to be elected as chairman for Malvern Hills District Council, and I would like to thank Mike Morgan for all the hard work he put in last year.
"I am really looking forward to tackling the challenges ahead and I have lots of activities planned to support local community projects and help drive the district forward.
"Having Cancer Research UK as one of my charities was a very personal choice for me as I lost my husband and many family members and friends to cancer."
She added she chose the Air Ambulance because they provided a vital and important emergency service in the region.
Cllr John Raine was elected as vice-chairman for the year.
