Nominate the buildings you love
Malvern Hills District Council is inviting nominations for its list of locally important buildings and structures.
There are many listed buildings and structures, scheduled monuments, conservation areas, registered parks and gardens, and even one registered battlefield within the Malvern Hills district, classed as Designated Heritage Assets.
But there are still many other buildings and structures that the community holds dear and which make a valuable contribution to a local sense of history, place and quality of life.
If a building or structure is included on Malvern's local list of Heritage Assets and then at some point in the future that building is proposed to be altered, extended or even demolished, the fact that it has been included on the local list and the reasons for its inclusion can be an important consideration and may influence future planning decisions.
Duncan Rudge, Development Control Manager at Malvern Hills, said: "Many buildings across the district will be important locally because of their architectural, historic or social interest, but we might not know much about them. This is an exciting opportunity for people to research buildings within the Malvern Hills district that they think are important and worthy of inclusion on the list, and that might merit greater protection by being included on the list."
Anyone can submit a nomination.
To nominate a building or structure, people should first read the supplementary planning document as it provides useful guidance on what you need to do to make a nomination. This is available in the planning section of Malvern Hills' website – at www.malvernhills.gov.uk/heritage-assets. The guidance also explains how nominations will be assessed before a decision is taken as to whether or not they will be included on the list. The guidance also includes a helpful nomination form.
The supplementary planning document and nomination form is also available on request from the Worcestershire Hub based at the libraries in Great Malvern and Tenbury Wells.
Completed nomination forms can be returned by post to Malvern Hills Planning Services, The Council House, Avenue Road, Malvern WR14 3AF. They can also be submitted by email to email@example.com.
There is no deadline for nominations.
