The Shop Front Design Guide SPD sets out the Council’s guidance on the design and appearance of shop fronts in Malvern Hills District. It gives advice on the maintenance and restoration of existing shop fronts and the design of new shop fronts. As many shops are in conservation areas or within or close to historic buildings, the design guide will help to conserve the street scene and the district’s heritage, as well as promoting good design generally.
The Design guide is relevant to businesses, property owners, architects and designers, planning officers and planning inspectors, and will be a material consideration in making decisions on applications for the provision of new shop fronts, or the alteration of existing ones.
A Shop Front Design Guide was first published in 2011. Although the design and technical advice contained in it was thought to be still largely relevant, with the adoption of the new development plan (the South Worcestershire Development Plan) the guidance has been updated to reflect current planning policy, advice and contact information.
