- Affordable Housing is subsidised housing which is made available to people who cannot afford to rent or buy a property on the open market appropriate for their needs.
- It is usually provided by an organisation known as a Registered Provider (RP), to help meet local need. It is offered in a range of property types to meet the needs of various household types and sizes.
- It can be available for rent or to purchase. There are a number of different models of Affordable Home Ownership including Shared Ownership and Fixed Equity.
- The council's Housing and Planning Departments work together to assess the housing needs within the District and ensure we have the right strategies and policies in place to meet these needs where possible. We achieve this by working in partnership with registered providers, developers, the Rural Housing Enabler and a wide range of county council and district council departments.
- The housing needs in our district are high and it has not been possible to build the required number of affordable homes each year to keep up with this need however we are committed to tackling this issue and the provision of affordable housing is a top priority within the district.
- In last three years the following Affordable Homes have been delivered in the district:
- 2014-15 = 257 new affordable homes delivered
- 2015-16 = 268 new affordable homes delivered
- 2016-17 = 256 new affordable homes delivered
