Couch to 50km

Men and women are being encouraged to set the wheels in motion and join a new cycling initiative to get them from couch to 50k.
The fun, social cycling group is for beginners and will run from Victoria Park in Malvern.
The initiative has been set up by Malvern Hills District Council, and aims to help people lead a more active lifestyle and improve fitness and well-being.
The programme will incorporate cycling proficiency to help build individual’s confidence of cycling on the road, improve cycle skills as well as build confidence of riding in a group, improve fitness and stamina. Instructor Rachel Vann will also be providing advice and support to help people progress to the overall 50km ride.
The programme will run for eight-ten weeks and costs £35 per person.
Couch to 50k is a National Initiative led by British Cycling, with a training plan that has been designed for anyone wanting to get fit and start cycling, even if they are currently inactive.
Rachel Vann, Physical Activity and Well Being Officer at Malvern Hills District Council said: “This course is perfect for a cycling novice and I’m really looking forward to getting started and meeting new people.
“It is a great programme for those who would like to get back into cycling or get into cycling for the first time, it also gives the opportunity to meet new people and feel good”.
