Couch to 5km

Residents are being encouraged to spring into action and join a social running group to get them from ‘Couch to 5k’.

The fun, informal running group is for complete beginners and starts on Thursday 7 June 2018, 10.30am at Malvern Town Football Club.

The 10-12 week programme has been set up by Malvern Hills District Council following the success of last year’s programme.  We know just how difficult it can be to make those first steps towards becoming more active, our style is fun and informal so that everyone feels comfortable.  The Couch to 5km programme is aimed at real beginners and aims to help build running confidence, stamina, fitness and well-being, as well as being social.

 

There are 10-12 weeks in the programme and each week you will do one run with us and two "homework" runs.

The course costs just £20. 

Fully qualified leader in running fitness Rachel Vann will provide free training, advice and support throughout. 

Couch to 5k is a national running initiative that has been designed to get people from the couch and gradually work up to running five kilometres in just 12 weeks.

Rachel Vann, well-being Officer for Malvern Hills District Council said: “I love watching how people’s confidence and fitness grows on this course. Most people who start the programme can only run for 30 seconds, by the end of the 12 weeks participants can successfully run their first Park Run, non-stop.”

Sophie Barnes, who completed the last Couch to 5k programme in December 2017 said: “I love the support and social nature of the Couch to 5km group. Not only have I met some lovely people, but my mood has improved, I’ve got much more energy and I can’t wait to take on my next challenge”.
