Become a ‘new you’ this new year with the return of Couch to 5k

Malvern Hills residents are being encouraged to get active after the festive season by taking part in 'Couch to 5k' in the new year.

The fun and informal running group is aimed at complete beginners of all ages and will be returning to the district at a number of different locations from January.

The courses will run from:

  • Thursday 10 January 2019, 12:30-1:30pm at The Council House, Malvern.
  • Tuesday 15 January 2019, 9-10am at Upton Primary School.
  • Tuesday 15 January 2019, 6:30-7:30pm at Malvern Vale Community Centre.
  • Thursday 17 January 2019, 10-11am at Malvern Town Football Club.

At a cost of £25 per person, the 10 to 12 week programme has been set up by Malvern Hills District Council with the aim of helping to build confidence, stamina, fitness and well-being, as well as being social.

Participants will complete one group run together every week as well as two homework runs with the support of group leaders.

By the end of the 12 weeks, participants will be able to take part in the Worcester Pitchcroft Park Run on 6 April and receive a well-earned medal at the finish line.

Couch to 5k is a national running programme designed to get people off the couch to gradually work up to running five kilometres in just 12 weeks.

Rachel Vann, Physical Activity and Well-being Officer for Malvern Hills District Council, said: "We have had a lot of success with our Couch to 5k programme in the past, it is a great chance for people who might not have done any running before to build confidence and improve their health, whilst making new friends.

"As running leader, I will be on hand with our other volunteers to provide training, advice and support throughout the programme."

There are only 12 places available for each course with a minimum number of eight people for the course to run. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
