Community dog walk event in Malvern aims to bring people together
Malvern Hills District Council is showing its support for a community dog walk event which aims to get people 'walking and talking'.Dogs and their owners are invited to the Reconnections Big Community Dog Walk at 6.30pm on Tuesday 20 August.
Meeting at the H20 Café car park at the Wyche Innovation Centre, the walk will last up to 1.5 hours and includes a hill.
Reconnections, led by Age UK Herefordshire and Worcestershire, is a project which aims to tackle loneliness in over 50s across Worcestershire by raising awareness and bringing the community together.
Within Worcestershire up to 35,000 older people may experience loneliness and 11,500 of those are chronically lonely.
Participants will also have the chance to sign up to the Green Dog Walkers scheme which aims to change attitudes about dog fouling in the district.
The national scheme encourages dog owners to take a pledge to clean up after their dog, to carry extra dog waste bags and to remind others to pick up after their pet.
John Whittall, Reconnections Caseworker, said of the previous Community Dog Walks: "It's lovely we've had lots of people show up, it's a good turn-out! It's great to see people out and about, talking together and getting a bit of exercise."
Jude Allen, Senior Community Environmental Protection Officer at Malvern Hills District Council, said: "We are pleased to support the Reconnections Big Community Dog Walk where dog walkers from across the district will have the chance to socialise with like-minded people in beautiful surroundings. We encourage everyone who takes part to sign up to the Green Dog Walkers scheme which is a friendly way of educating others to dispose of their dog waste correctly."
