Don’t lose your voice, register to vote

 Residents do not have long to ensure they are registered to vote or apply for a postal vote in the upcoming General Election.

The deadline to register to vote is midnight on Tuesday, 26 November 2019. Anyone who has not applied by that date will lose their right to have their say in who becomes the next MP for West Worcestershire, when the nation goes to the polls on Thursday, 12 December 2019.

Registering to vote is easy and can be done in just a few minutes online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote or call the Electoral Services team at Malvern Hills District Council on 01684 862200.

The deadline for applications to vote by post is also Tuesday, 26 November 2019 but forms must be received at the Council House in Avenue Road, Malvern by 5pm.

Postal votes will be issued during the last week of November for existing postal voters and the first week of December for anyone who has recently applied, so people should consider whether or not they will be available to fill in and return their vote before applying.

Anyone planning to send someone else to vote on their behalf – known as voting by proxy – has until Wednesday, 4 December at 5pm to submit their completed paperwork.

Laura Noonan, Electoral Services Manager for Malvern Hills District Council, said: "Anyone not yet registered to vote should do so as soon as possible in order for them to be able to cast their vote in the upcoming General Election on 12 December 2019.

"With the introduction of online registration it is now easier than ever to make sure you are registered in time."
