Inspirational Paralympian Mel Nicholls to speak at sports awards
The key note speaker for the Malvern Hills District Community Sports Awards has been announced as Paralympian Mel Nicholls.
A wheelchair racer, endurance handcyclist and adventurer, Mel will tell her inspiring tale to more than 200 nominees, dignitaries and guests at the annual event on 11 July at The Bank House Hotel.
Before the event, on 13 June, the Worcester-born London and Rio Paralympian will be attempting to become the fastest person to handcycle from Land's End to John O'Groats.
She hopes to complete the grueling 874 miles -cycling 100 miles each day using her arms- in just nine days. The current female Guinness world record stands at 11 days.
The deadline for nominations for the Malvern Hills District Community Sports Awards is fast approaching and will be on Sunday, 26 May.
The awards are run by Malvern Hills District Council in association with headline sponsor Freedom Leisure. They celebrate sporting success as well as the commitment of the volunteers and coaches who support athletes and clubs across the district.
There are 13 categories to nominate in including Positive Change of the Year and Sports School of the Year.
Sophie Jackson, Community Services Engagement Officer at Malvern Hills District Council, said: "We are so excited to have Mel Nicholls as our key note speaker for this year's Malvern Hills District Community Sports Awards. Mel's story is truly inspirational and we wish her good luck in her challenge.
"The sports awards are all about those individuals who help people across this district reach their goals or simply enjoy the benefits of sport. Please send us your nominations before it's too late!".
