Work to start on Priory Park play area
A popular play area in Great Malvern is set to be transformed as part of an exciting half a million-pound revamp.
Building works on the play area in Priory Park will begin next week on 15 November and will continue until March next year.
Malvern Hills District Council has worked with specialist play equipment company, Flights of Fantasy, on the new, state-of-the-art design which is unique and eco-friendly.
The council is also working with Avery Landscapes Limited, who are the main contractor for the project.
The play area will use sustainable timber, planting and materials to give a natural and rustic feel, while also allowing for a range of play.
Children will be able to climb on natural boulders, crawl through hobbit holes, hide in a hollow tree trunk, walk across a rope bridge, swing on a basket swing and even meet a giant dragonfly.
Care has also been taken to ensure no damage will occur to the existing tree roots.
Pathways surrounding the play area will be closed off and clear signage will be in place to redirect people.
The play area replacement is part of the wider improvement plan for Priory Park which includes refurbishment to the shelters, desilting the upper pond and more.
Cllr Peter Whatley, Portfolio Holder for Resources at Malvern Hills District Council, said: "I'm delighted to announce that the long-awaited revamp of the play area is starting. The design from our expert advisors Flights of Fantasy is striking and will form a sanctuary for children to explore and interact in a natural environment. It will also materially contribute to the beauty of our wonderful park. We can't wait for everyone to enjoy it".
