Businesses urged not to miss out on support funding

Up to 100 businesses could miss out on crucial coronavirus support funding with the deadline to register fast approaching.

The Government has set a cut-off date of 28 August 2020 for businesses to register for grant support funding. The money was first allocated to councils in March 2020 to support small and medium-sized businesses, forced to temporarily close due to coronavirus.

Malvern Hills District Council has paid out more than £18.6million to more than 1,600 businesses. But there are still many businesses out there that could benefit from the money and have not registered.

Efforts have been made to contact businesses to make sure nobody misses out, including sending letters, social media campaigns and phone calls. If eligible companies do not register by the deadline, any unspent money will be returned to the Government.

Cllr Sarah Rouse, Leader of Malvern Hills District Council, said: "There are businesses that will survive this pandemic because of the lifeline this money provided. If your business qualifies for support funding then do not delay, register now. The form is simple, and it takes no more than a couple of minutes.

"I want to once again pay tribute to our staff for their magnificent effort, in getting this money paid out to where it was needed, as fast as they did."
