The Chairman of Malvern Hills District Council is urging those being called for the Covid-19 vaccine to make sure they attend their appointment, after receiving the jab himself.
Cllr Dean Clarke was vaccinated on Thursday, 7 January 2021 after being informed by the NHS it was his turn.
Cllr Clarke said: "I was impressed with the whole process and the organisation of the surgery where I received the vaccine. It was quick and painless. The longest part was waiting 15 minutes afterwards just to ensure that I was safe. I urge anyone who is called for the vaccine to go and have it, as it's the only hope we have of getting back to normal life.
"I have been waiting in eagerly for this, not only for my own safety but for that of others as well. I can't wait until this pandemic is over so I can safely give my grandchildren a hug again and meet up with friends down at my local for a pint."
The Covid-19 vaccine reduces the chance of someone suffering from the virus. It does not provide instant protection but takes time to build up immunity. Anyone that has it still needs to continue to stay at home and follow national lockdown rules, wear face coverings and keep their distance from others when outside.
The NHS is currently vaccinating people according to the priority list set out by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI). The NHS will contact people when it is their turn for the vaccine. People are asked not to contact their GP surgery or local hospital asking when they will receive the vaccine.
