Youth Chair's fund supports projects across the district

More than £700 has been awarded by Malvern Hills District Council to organisations across the district to support young people's initiatives.

Since being chosen to represent youth priorities as Malvern Hills District Council's Youth Chairperson, Matthew Knight, and its three advisors, Meg Alley, Lexi Ward and Finn Jones have supported several projects with their Youth Chair Fund.

Tenbury High Ormiston Academy received £500 towards purchasing and furnishing its 'Time to Talk Cabin', which provides a safe space for students to talk about and seek support with their mental health and wellbeing.

Perfect Circle Theatre Group was given £250 to hire a professional videographer to work with their young people to create a short film based on their ideas and playwriting projects, teaching them how to film and edit.

For each project young people pitched their idea to Matthew and the Youth Advisors via video call.

Cllr Tom Wells, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at Malvern Hills District Council, said: "I'm delighted to see what Matthew, Lexi, Finn and Meg have achieved during their time at the council - they've supported some truly amazing youth-led projects. I can't wait to see what the youth chair and advisors will do with this year's fund."

Lee Farley, Director at Perfect Circle Theatre Group, said: "Perfect Circle Youth Theatre are extremely grateful for the support of the Youth Chair's Fund. Members of the group enjoyed the opportunity to pitch our idea to the young people on the advisory panel; we think this is an excellent way of introducing some aspects of fundraising and project planning."
