Preparation underway for pond desilting in Priory Park

Preparation work has now started for the desilting of the pond in Priory Park, Great Malvern.

Removal of the silt is due to start on Monday 18 October, and when completed the flow of the waterfall will help to improve water quality.

The banks will also be repaired and reprofiled to benefit wildlife and vegetation replanted.

The major draining works of the upper pond in the park started on Monday 20 September to prepare it for essential repairs and maintenance.

The draining is part of a series of improvements being made to Malvern's Priory Park to provide an even better experience for visitors.

The work was given the go-ahead following an ecological survey and is supervised by ecologists throughout.

Cllr Peter Whatley, Portfolio Holder for Resources at Malvern Hills District Council, said: "It is great to see the progress that has already been made to the ponds in Priory Park. The essential works carried out are all part of our commitment to improving and making the most of our environment."

The main path from Malvern Splash to the Council House is now closed for two weeks during the works.
