NEWS: Hallow residents to receive free SmartWater kits to help protect valuables

Malvern Hills District Council (MHDC) is supporting the residents of Hallow to protect their valuables with the rollout of SmartWater kits.

A sign-up event will take place at Hallow Village Hall, on Wednesday 23 October, from 6pm to 8pm, where West Mercia Police, and MHDC will be providing residents with information and registration details to receive free kits.

SmartWater is a way of keeping valuable items safe by marking them with an invisible, water-based liquid. This assigns the item with a unique code, so it can be traced back to the owner, making it easier for them to be returned if stolen.

First launched in 2022, the scheme has already successfully distributed over 1,600 SmartWater property marking kits to residents of Kempsey and its hamlets, to help protect their valuables.

Kempsey has also since become a SmartWater village, SmartWater Village status is achieved when 80% of homes within a village have signed up to receive SmartWater kits to protect their valuables.

The scheme has been part funded by MHDC and the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), John Campion.

Cllr Tom Wells, Leader of Malvern Hills District Council, said: “We are really pleased to be able to rollout the SmartWater scheme to Hallow residents. It is important that we continue to work together with partnership agencies to help support crime prevention initiatives in our communities.”
