NEWS: Malvern Hills District encouraged to get active with Street Tag

An interactive challenge which led to 12 schools walking more than 34 million steps will return next month and will be open to everyone across the Malvern Hills District.

Street Tag is a free, family-friendly smartphone app game that records physical activity and encourages participants to explore their local area by visiting virtual tags and collecting points.

Malvern Hills District Council has partnered with Street Tag for a second year and is now opening the challenge to residents, businesses, workplaces, and community groups as part of their commitment to Active Travel.

As part of the challenge, virtual tags can be added to various locations and landmarks, with businesses, community groups, organisations being able to promote their services, events and offers.

The Malvern Hills leaderboard kicks off on 1 May 2025 and will run until 2 July 2025. Prizes will be given out on a fortnightly basis and there will be one winner at the end of the challenge. The council will be working with Freedom Leisure to provide the prizes.

Last year, 12 schools across the district took part and walked more than 34 million steps and covered more than 41,000 miles.

Following the two-month challenge, Hanley Swan St Gabriel’s with St Mary’s C of E Primary School reached the top of the leaderboard.

Jen Taylor, Director of Communities and Housing at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “Street Tag is a great way of getting active and having fun. Last year’s challenge was a great success with an impressive number of miles and steps taken. Now anyone can take part in the challenge- not just schools- we hope people get excited about Active Travel and getting out and about in their local area”.

A Street Tag drop-in session will be held from 5pm to 5.45pm on 28 April 2025 where you can ask any questions about how to get involved. To receive the Microsoft Teams invite, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
