NEWS: Transformation of car park at Malvern Town Football Club now finished

A muddy, potholed, and uninviting car park at Malvern Town Football Club has been transformed to become more welcoming and easier to access.

The project has turned what was once a difficult and unattractive space into a high-quality, community-friendly facility that provides safe and easy access for visitors to the club and its growing number of community users.

The improvement works included a full resurfacing and reconfiguration of parking spaces, along with the installation of a new overflow car park.

The aim was to enhance accessibility, safety, and the visual appearance of the site, while also reducing on-street parking in surrounding residential areas on match days.

The upgraded parking facilities now provide a total of 104 spaces, including 51 in the main car park, 33 in the new overflow area, and 20 in the dedicated players’ section.

The improvements also include accessible bays, bike storage, safer pedestrian walkways, enhanced drainage, and a widened entrance.

The scheme represents a partnership between Malvern Hills District Council and Malvern Town Football Club, with the council and club investing more than £425,000 as part of its Community Infrastructure Investment Plan (CIIP) adopted in March 2025.

The CIIP will see more than £3 million invested across the district into community facilities and council-owned assets, including Upton Hill Community Centre, Sport Martley, and a new open community space in Leigh Sinton.

Chris Pinder, Chairman at Malvern Town FC, said: “This project shows what can happen when local government and community clubs pull in the same direction. What was once an ugly, bumpy car park that gave a poor first impression has been transformed into something we can all be proud of. It’s a great example of partnership delivering real results for the town.

“The improved facilities are already making an impact with visitors. Over 1,000 people have attended the Malvern Town Help Centre since it opened on site, and the stadium now hosts local schools, wellbeing programmes, and community events every week - making it one of Malvern’s most utilised community hubs.”

Cllr John Gallagher, Leader of Malvern Hills District Council, said: “We have made a major transformation to the appearance and accessibility of our great Malvern Football Club. It presents a warm welcome to visitors, where visiting teams and fans will experience a professional welcome when they turn up on match day. I am delighted that we have finally completed this phase of the project. It complements the improvements we have made recently in Malvern Rugby Club. We will continue to invest and improve our community assets.”

Cllr Jennie Watkins, Portfolio Holder for Communities and Housing at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “We are pleased to have supported this project as part of our Community Infrastructure Investment Plan. The improvement works look brilliant and will make a real difference to accessibility at the club while helping to reduce on-street parking for residents.”
