Repair works will soon commence on the historic Pepperpot in Upton upon Severn.
Essential works to the Pepperpot, a prominent local landmark dating back to the 14th century, will take place from Wednesday, 11 March 2026 to 17, July 2026.
The Tourist Information Centre, and Heritage Centre, located within the Pepperpot, will be closed until Friday, 3 April.
The Pepperpot is the surviving tower of the former parish church of St Peter and St Paul, Upton-upon-Severn, and is the town’s oldest building.
Repair works include:
- Timber repairs to all high-level timber elements, and painting of the lantern (top dome with weathervane), Cupola (first dome), and church tower (the Pepperpot).
Accessible improvement works will include:
- Installation of new handrails to both sides of the approach steps
- Regrading existing entrance ramp
- Repairing nave wall railing
- North boundary wall brick replacements
- Restoring external paving
The tower will be fully scaffolded with an enclosed compound area around the tower.
Cllr John Gallagher, Portfolio Holder for Resources at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “It is really important that we preserve and carry out any necessary repairs to this iconic building in Upton, it holds significant historical value for both residents and visitors alike.”
