NEWS: Malvern Theatres on the hunt for talented street artists

Malvern Theatres is excited to announce the launch of its quest to find talented street artists, creative community groups and schools with an artistic passion to take part in its exciting £20 million redevelopment project.

The Priory Park Mural Project is a unique opportunity for artists to showcase their creativity and imagination while contributing to the conversation on the transformation of Malvern Theatres.

The theatre invites local artists to submit suggested designs in order to create a series of large-scale mural paintings, to decorate the site hoardings around Priory Park in Malvern.

Fred Moroni, Chief Executive Officer at Malvern Theatres, said: “We are searching for designs that celebrate creativity, community, and cultural exchange and encourage all local artists to step into the redevelopment conversation and be seen by thousands of visitors to Malvern Theatres and Priory Park.”

The project is open until 8 June, when Malvern Theatres in partnership with Malvern Hills District Council, will assess the designs submitted and then announce up to three artworks to be recreated on the hoardings in Priory Park this summer, and for the duration of the project into 2027.

The initiative offers a bursary of £1,350 for the artist’s time and cost of materials. Installation costs will be met additionally by the theatre. The theatre is encouraging entries that are unique one-off designs, to create an open-air gallery, using the hoardings as a base for the outdoor artworks.

Cllr John Gallagher, Leader of Malvern Hills District Council, said: “We are delighted to support the Priory Park Mural Project as part of the dynamic redevelopment of Malvern Theatres. This initiative is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the creativity and talent within our community while bringing colour, culture and inspiration to the heart of Malvern. We encourage local artists to get involved and help create something that residents and visitors can enjoy.”
